This is condensed matter lab. We measure many kinds of crystals, amorphous substances , solvents, with X-ray, neutron scattering. So that we can see the structure and properties.

About gas and solid, the structure was well understood so far.
Gas can be represented by “pV=nRT”.About solid, you can see periodic structure of the crystal.
On the other hand, liquid hasn't been elucidated yet.Also, can't illustrated by the reputation of some kind of structure.
So we want to study!
Then how do we study?
When we search structure,we must have anything to do with invisible atom and molecular.
Therefore we search atom placement using X-rays and a neutron beam.
X-ray, neutron beam's wave length is around 0.1nm. It's as big as the size of atoms.
We irradiate them to the sample, to get scattering intensity. And we can see the structure.
where to go for experiment
At normal laboratory, it's hard to do experiment using X-ray scattering or neutron scattering.
For experiment, we go to “J-PARC” at Ibaraki prefecture.
After the experiments, we go back our laboratory and analyze the data we got.
Go to huge facilities for experiments can be one of this laboratory's character.
